As part of our
swim night at Commonwealth pool a few weeks ago, some Cubs worked with the
leaders to complete a number of requirements towards levels 1, 2 and 3 of the
Aquatic Skills badges. Some swam 25 m under a lifeguard’s supervision, others
showed they can swim with their head in the water, or knew how to use a
snorkel. We will be working with interested Cubs over the next few months to
complete more of the Aquatic Skills requirements, but we want parents to know
that for some of these, such as “I have snorkeled in a pool or open water (such
as a lake)”, we are quite willing to accept your “testimonials” that your kids
have done these things under your supervision. Also, if your Cub has achieved a
level of certification through Red Cross, YMCA or Aquaquest swim lessons,
please bring in their “report card” from the course and we will give them
appropriate credit.
You can find a complete list of the Aquatic Skills
competencies at http://www.scoutinglife.ca/wp-content/uploads/oas/aquatic-skills-en.pdf.
