Spring Break for Cubs

There is no meeting this week due to spring break. Enjoy what is left of the snow and we will see you all next week on April 6th.

Sea Critters Night March 23rd

Cubs, this week is Sea Critters Night. The lab on campus is room Z 211, this is on the second floor (main ground level) of the Biological Sciences Building (11 B4 on Map Below). Access is from the loading dock passage door on the West end of the building which enters into the Genetics wing (G), proceed east into the main elevator stair well area, if you continue east you end up in Centre Wing (CW), do not go there! From the stair well go north into the Zoology Wing (Z) and the lab is a few doors down. If you go too far you end up in the Psychology wing.

Re Parking, There is no long term legal parking by the loading dock, There are 15 minute meters and the University tickets a lot. Pay parking is available in Windsor car park, or the Faculty Club parking lot, or more expensive metered street parking on Saskatchewan Drive. The loading dock drive is off Saskatchewan Drive between the Bio Science building and the Faculty Club (Northeast corner of the University Campus).

Cub Car Race March 16th

70th Goldbar Scouting Group has invited us over on March 16th for a Cub Car Race. We will be meeting at an earlier time of 6:00PM at Fulton Place Hall (6115 Fulton Road NW). This is an informal meeting but we will need to be in full uniform, if you do not have your uniform please wear a green shirt. You will need to bring your Cub Cars that you had made to this meeting, if you do not have one please let me know and I will bring some extras.

Cub Swim on March 9th

Hey there Cubs!

This Wednesday we will be going swimming at Scona Pool (10450 72 Avenue, shares a common entrance with Strathcona High School). We will meet at the pool entrance (inside Scona High School and downstairs) at 6:30pm. Parents are welcome to join us at a cost of $5.50.

Winter Camp 2011

This week the Cubs will be meeting at the Parkallen School to finish our winter camp preparations. Just a reminder please dress for the weather this Wednesday's meeting as we will be outside. Happy Hunting Cubs.

It was great to see so many Cubs out on Saturday for the Cub Car Build. I now have to spend many sleepless nights working on my car just to compete with these cars. This week we will be meeting at the School to work on Winter Cubing Badge.

Be prepared to talk about the following:

1. Describe how to prevent and treat:
a. Frost-bite;
b. Skin on cold metal;
c. Snow blindness;
d. breaking through ice;
e. Hypothermia
2. Show that you are properly dressed for a winter outing or describe how to dress for with weather. Know the importance of staying dry
3. Recognize and identify in winter conditions 3 common birds and 3 common trees or shrubs
4. Point out the North Star and 3 night sky features, such as stars, constellations, and planets
5. Take part in two of the following
a. A winter camp
b. A winter hike
c. 2 winter outdoor meetings
d. lighting a fire and cooking a simple meal under winter conditions
e. a hike on snowshoes or skis
f. an ice fishing trip

February 9th Meeting
